Providing security through a pandemic when business is anything but usual

November 24, 2020

The Coronavirus pandemic has seen businesses have to adapt rapidly to new ways of working. Security is no exception.

At Foremost Security, our SIA Accreditation has thankfully allowed us to continue with the delivery of our services, designating us ‘key workers’ – part of the wider emergency services family.

That said, our role has changed significantly from what it was pre-COVID, and we too are being challenged on a daily basis to work in a manner which is effective, but which does not put any member of our team at increased risk.

Wherever possible we are making contact with our clients via telephone and video call, however the very nature of our business means that on many occasions we still require to attend site. Where this is the case, we do so in an entirely ‘socially distanced manner’, making sure that our contact with other people and with items and surfaces within the premises are kept to a bare minimum.

As in every area of our operation, we take our responsibilities very seriously and that’s why we have ensured that all staff have had additional training on new work procedures and protective measures and have the full range of PPE appropriate to their roles. Perhaps not so obviously, we have also refreshed our teams on the strategies they may have to apply when de-escalating any confrontational or emotionally-charged situations.

As well giving careful consideration to the safety and well-being of our employees, we have also had to illustrate a significant degree of business agility. Some customers simply do not need our services at the moment whilst others need us more than ever, many in a totally different capacity from before. Mobile patrols have increased for those premises which have been forced to close their doors, providing valuable peace of mind for those business owners who are worried about leaving their buildings and belongings empty for prolonged periods. Alarm call-outs too have increased as we become the first responders for any issues which may or may not be caused by intruders.

Overall, at Foremost Security we consider ourselves very privileged in being allowed to continue to provide our security services at this time of unprecedented business disruption. Like many others we have had to adapt quickly, but our experience, training, dedicated staff – and of course our SIA accreditation – means that we have been able keep our commitments to those clients who rely on us for their safety and security.
