Staying safe this Christmas

Staying safe this Christmas

December 18, 2018

We’re sure you know this already but Christmas is approaching fast! Though there’s an air of excitement around this time of year, it’s also a busy time for potential thieves and vandals taking advantage of businesses preparing for the Christmas shutdown.

With just a few weeks to go until Santa does the rounds, it’s important to make sure your premises will be safe over the festive period.

Security cover to manage extended leave periods

Around this time of year, your team members may well be taking longer periods of absence to ensure they spend as much time as possible with their families. That doesn’t mean you should have to worry about who will look after your premises when nobody is around.

Mobile security patrols can be put in place to ensure there is someone on hand to check that the offices are secure, even if everyone else is off Christmas shopping or on their holidays. Because thieves are often impossible to predict, mobile patrols can be stepped up or decreased as you need to ensure your building has the right protection at the right times.

By providing a visual deterrent, mobile security guards put off any unwelcome visitors to your premises during the Christmas down-time.

Don’t let an alarm interrupt Christmas with your family

There’s nothing worse than having Christmas dinner with your family interrupted because of a problem at the office. Security guards trained to respond to any alarm activation can take away that worry or concern by acting swiftly.

Regardless of whether it’s a false alarm or a more serious issue, security personnel can be at your site within minutes and provide you with an up-to-the-minute account of what’s happened and reduce the risk to yourself or staff working over the Christmas period.

Tightening the belt over Christmas?

Christmas can be an expensive time of the year, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your business’s security.

Mobile patrols can cover multiple locations in one patrol. If you have several warehouses that need protection, this solution allows each to have the same high level of security without having to pay for additional resources.

Though if you feel that your premises’ need continuous support over the festive period, then you might want to consider using a static guard to provide ongoing cover and protection for full peace of mind.

The common tactics used by burglars and how to protect against them

There are plenty of other steps you can take to keep your business protected over the festive period. They can be as simple as drawing the blinds and electronic shutters to hide valuable items to putting up warning signs and CCTV systems.

A common tactic used by burglars is breaking in through weakened or unlocked doors. In fact, this is the case in around 60% of burglaries so it’s vital that you go through the procedures for leaving your business premises at Christmas with your staff, or look at using a keyholding service.

Burglars may also circle the building before identifying weak spots. So before you break up for the holiday season, make sure that you have packed everything away and that yours and your neighbours’ CCTV systems are working, as well as keeping a log of who will be working over the Christmas period.
